Congratulations, McClain Moran of James River High School, Lexus of Richmond’s week 20 Leadership Award nominee!

Ranked 16th in her class, she has a current 4.67 GPA and scored a 1400 out of 1600 on the SATs. McClain is a member of the National Honor Society, Math Honors Society and the World Language Honors Society. She received a Silver Medal on the Level 5 National Latin Exam, and she is a three time recipient of an Excellence in Latin Award at James River. She is involved in Inspire US as a student leader focused on creating the opportunity for student-run voter registration in high schools. An AP Scholar and a Junior Marshall, McClain was on the 2017 Virginia State Ethics Bowl State Championship Team.

Throughout her time at James River, McClain has been a 3 sport athlete all 4 years of school. On the field hockey team, she was the leading scorer in 2016 and received the Coaches Award in 2017. Also in 2017 she was named to the 2nd Team All Conference. As a lacrosse player, McClain will be the captain for her senior season, and she received the Coaches Award in 2017. Additionally, she has played 4 seasons of basketball and was the 2015 captain of the JV Team.

As a member of the Leadership and International Relations Specialty Center, McClain has spent 3 years as a recruiter and council member. In 2014, she was a Virginia General Assembly Senate Page for 9 weeks. She was a summer intern at the Virginia State Senate Legislative Affairs. At James River, McClain is a member of the Beta Club, Model UN and Ethics Bowl Team. She has also been a member of the Rapid Rowdies School Spirit Club and Latin Club as well as a council member for the freshman orientation kick-off program.

As an independent capstone project, McClain organized the first bipartisan candidates’ forum at James River. Six Chesterfield County Candidates attended and spoke during an open Q&A session. As a sophomore she volunteered for Dan Gecker’s campaign for the State Senate. McClain has spent four years as a volunteer coach at Little Feet Meet through the Special Olympics for elementary school students, and she is currently an after school tutor in the Math Lab at James River.

McClain is now in the running for the $10,000 scholarship.
