Our week 11 scholar athlete for the Lexus of Richmond Leadership Award Scholarship is Liza Hopper of Midlothian High School. Ranked 2nd in her class with a 4.94 GPA, Liza is a member of 7 honor societies. She is the President of the National Honor Society as well as a member of the English, Science, Mathematics (Mu Alpha Theta), Music (Tri M), Latin, and Social Studies (Rho Kappa) honor societies. Liza scored a 33 out of 36 on the ACT exam, and she is an AP Scholar with Distinction. She has been named the English Student of the Year (freshman) and AP Biology Junior of the Year. For her efforts on the Latin 2 National Latin Exam, Liza is Magna Cum Laude. Liza was a Junior Marshall, and she is a UVA Book Award recipient.

In her time at Midlothian, Liza has participated in numerous student groups. As a two year member of the Latin Club, she is currently their Philanthropic Chairperson. While in the French Club for three years, she served as the Secretary (10th) and Vice President (11th). Additionally, Liza was a participant in the French Congress Festival for two years. During freshman year, Liza was selected for the Chesterfield County Public Schools Leadership Institute. She was a two year member of the Trojans for Tomorrow Club. Liza was involved with the school play, Wizard of Oz, as a junior. As a junior, Liza partook in Disease Detective Camp at the CDC Headquarters. Highly involved at her church, Liza is a long time St. James’ Chorister and is currently a Senior Leader. She is also a two year Head Acolyte at St. James. Since freshman year, Liza is a member of the Chamber Orchestra. She is the Assistant Principal in the Viola Section. As a freshman Liza was in the Central Regional Orchestra as the First Chair of Orchestra B. Liza has been selected for the Chesterfield County, All County Orchestra (9-11).

A four year Varsity Field Hockey player for Midlothian, Liza is a two time captain for the team. Playing the right and left midfield, she was named the Most Improved Player as a freshman. In 2019 the team won the Field Hockey Regional Championship (4A.) Having played two seasons of JV Lacrosse, Liza is now in her second year on the Varsity Lacrosse team where she plays defense. As a junior Liza was named the Best Defensive Player for the team. Outside of school, Liza played three seasons of Club Field Hockey for the Undertow Field Hockey team.

Heavily involved in her local community, Liza has participated with several organizations. Throughout her high school career, she has been a Homework Helper to fellow students. She is a three year Sidekick for the incoming freshmen. During her junior year, Liza was an AP Student Mentor. Through the Latin Club, she has volunteered at a local retirement home.Liza has given time to CARITAS and Rise Against Hunger. She has volunteered for the richmond Marathon and St. James’s Children’s Center. Liza volunteered for the Midlothian High School Strings Camp and the Woolridge Elementary STEAM Night. Liza also spent two years as a Field Hockey Mentor for the Weaver Athletic Association.
