Congratulations, Emily Mendelson of the Collegiate School, Lexus of Richmond's week 26 Leadership Award Scholarship nominee!

With her current 4.31 GPA, Emilyis ranked in the top 15% of her graduating class, and she is a member of the Cum Laude Honor Society. Emily received the Hirschler Science Research Award and the Elizabeth Bryson Powell Economics Award. In 2017 she was a FIRST Robotics Dean’s List Finalist. In 2016 Emily was the FIRST Chesapeake District Champion and the FIRST Hampton Roads District Champion.

While attending Collegiate, Emily has competed on the Varsity Winter Track team for six years and the Varsity Spring Track team for four seasons. For her time on the winter track team, Emily has been recognized as the MVP as a junior and senior. She has also received the Coaches Award and Rookie of the Year Award. For spring track Emily was awarded the MVP Award in 2017 and the Award for Excellence in 2016. Additionally she was selected for the ALL League of Independent Schools team and the All State team in 2015. In 2017 Emily set a school record in the 4x100m, and she qualified and ran in 2 events at the Penn Relays.

As a member of Collegiate’s Robotics Team, Emily is the captain and leader of women in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics). She is a member and currently the President of the Darr-Davis Investment Board at Collegiate. This group manages a portfolio worth $100,000 and works together to grow and develop their investments. As a junior and now senior, Emily works on the school Yearbook. She is the Arts and Campus Life Editor where she focuses on the day-to-day life of the students as well as occurrences such as homecoming, field trips or the spring play.

Since 2015, Emily has been a peer tutor for other students at Collegiate in subjects such as: physics, chemistry, pre-calculus, geometry and Chinese. During her freshman and sophomore years she was a classroom assistant at St. Andrews. Emily has volunteered her time to help people around the Richmond area with groups like Caritas and The Doorways.

Emily is now in the running for the $10,000 scholarship.
